A family on the NSW Central Coast is grieving and angry after the death of a nine-year-old boy who was injured in a collision with an allegedly drunk driver.
James, nine, died last night in hospital three days after the horror accident.
"If you were lucky enough to meet James, you would know what an incredible little legend he was," the boy's aunt wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to support the family.
James loved kicking ball with his mom, jumping on a trampoline with his mates, eating cheesecake, playing Monopoly and dump dad and so much more, "Tragically, James was taken from us so early." “He passed away on Saturday January 7, 2023 after sustaining a severe brain injury in a car accident. He was only nine years old and had his whole life ahead of him.”
James and his mother Anastasia were on their way to buy new soccer shoes on Wednesday so he could kick a ball he bought with Christmas money, when a Lexus SUV driven by a woman who was allegedly nearly four times the legal limit collided with James and his mother's Toyota sedan. Police say the SUV ran a "give way" sign.
The accident occurred at the junction of Mort Street and George Evans Road in Killarney Vale, about 90 minutes north of Sydney. James was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in critical condition.
